The Madhouse

2026 Cook Out Clash • Wednesday, Feb 4 • 6:00 PM ET
🌧️ NEW WEATHER THREAT: Wintry mix/rain forecast for 8 PM Wednesday. NASCAR confirms: Wet-weather tires are GO for damp tracks, but NO RACING in active storms.
⚠️ FORMAT CHANGE: Heat Races CANCELLED. Top 20 lock in via Qualifying speed.
🛠️ MECHANICAL RISK: "Impound" rules in effect. Cracked brake rotors cannot be swapped without penalty.

Technical Warfare: 750HP in the Freezer

The "Impound" Trap

The Crisis: Sub-freezing air (11°F lows) causes "thermal shock," cracking brake rotors instantly. Because this is an Impound Race, teams cannot change rotors between Practice and Qualifying without NASCAR approval.

"If you saw a crack [after practice], you wouldn't have time to change it... It opens up a whole can of worms." — Crew Chief Adam Stevens
Nitrogen & 23 PSI

The Science: Teams must use dry nitrogen. Tire pressure builds by 23 PSI during a run at Bowman Gray. Moisture in standard air would expand unpredictably, ruining handling.

JGR Strategy: Joe Gibbs Racing may run left-side tires at single-digit pressures (near flat) to maximize contact patch grip.
