Tech Section: Short-Track Mechanical Package

The Iowa Corn 350 utilizes the Next Gen short-track aerodynamic package. Why? The configuration is designed to reduce the lead car's aerodynamic wake, allowing the following car to maintain front-end downforce through Iowa’s sweeping 0.875-mile corners. So What? This shift forces crew chiefs to rely on mechanical rotation through the center of the turn; drivers who cannot rotate the car with "clean" steering inputs will burn through their right-front tires during the long 140-lap stages.

Goodyear Eagle Selection: Goodyear is debuting a brand-new left-side tire compound specifically for this event. Why? The updated construction is designed to withstand the high lateral G-loads of Newton while promoting significant thermal degradation. So What? This introduces a "tire management" variable that favors veterans like Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson, who excel at balancing throttle application to mitigate fall-off over a green-flag run.

Tire Allotment: Teams are restricted to 11 total sets for the weekend (1 practice, 1 qualifying, 9 race). Why? To create strategic pressure during the final 140-lap stage where the "fresh rubber" advantage is at its peak. So What? One early-race "flat spot" or unforced pit stop could leave a championship contender with zero fresh sets for a late-race overtime shootout.
Weekend Intelligence History (v2 Asset Relocation): May 12-13 Tire Test: The technical baseline for this race was established during a mid-May test session. Participating drivers Ross Chastain (Trackhouse Racing), Austin Dillon (Richard Childress Racing), Noah Gragson (Front Row Motorsports), and Tyler Reddick (23XI Racing) provided the data necessary to finalize the "high-wear" construction of the current left-side tire package.

Qualifying Order Metric Order: The field will qualify in the following sequence: Connor Zilisch (#88), Cody Ware (#51), Riley Herbst (#35), Austin Hill (#133), Ty Dillon (#10), John Hunter Nemechek (#42), Kyle Larson (#5), Austin Dillon (#3), Chase Elliott (#9), Noah Gragson (#4), Erik Jones (#43), AJ Allmendinger (#16), Bubba Wallace (#23), Todd Gilliland (#34), Ross Chastain (#1), Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (#47), Alex Bowman (#48), Ryan Blaney (#12), Michael McDowell (#71), Cole Custer (#41), William Byron (#24), Zane Smith (#38), Shane Van Gisbergen (#97), Daniel Suárez (#7), Josh Berry (#21), Austin Cindric (#2), Ryan Preece (#60), Chris Buescher (#17), Brad Keselowski (#6), Ty Gibbs (#54), Carson Hocevar (#77), Tyler Reddick (#45), Joey Logano (#22), Chase Briscoe (#19), Christopher Bell (#20), and Denny Hamlin (#11).
